Cheers to you, Tourism Vancouver – on your informative and easy to navigate website and blog, Inside Vancouver!

Tourism Vancouver’s website is chock full of information for any tourist to plan their vacation including links and info on accommodations, events and attractions, dining options, transit and transit, plus contest links and partners. Their blog, Inside Vancouver, provides locals’ perspective on topics including food and drink, shopping, events, the outdoors, and sports.

While both sites appear different (visually, content-wise, and who they are targeting), what’s interesting is that both sites link back to the same social media accounts. Their Facebook page (80,000 “likes”), Twitter (73,000 followers), and Weibo (144,986 fans on Chinese Twitter) follow a similar strategy of consistently posting a photo plus article link, generally with event-based content. Ultimately, both drive traffic back to the Inside Vancouver blog for the full article. Their Youtube channel (1887 subscribers) is updated less frequently and content ranges from promotional videos to their latest video with 8753 views simply about Vancouver rain! Lastly, their Instagram is inconsistent with their other social media strategies as it mainly regrams (reposts) photos of Vancouver from other users.

With their large Facebook and Twitter fanbase, Tourism Vancouver could further create engaging content by establishing more of a conversation with their fans, as opposed to leveraging social media as a platform to share links. However, Tourism Vancouver is successful in demonstrating their vast knowledge of the city and as the information experts on everything Vancouver related. Their frequent posting and captivating images on their social media channels allow Tourism Vancouver to control the content of what Vancouver represents rather than having an external travel site promote various events and attractions. Tourism Vancouver succeeds in capturing the readership of tourists and locals and maintain their position as the “go to” source of information for Vancouver.

Cheers!
